Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1 cup of sugar into the medium-size mixing bowl.

    • 2

Pour 2 teaspoons of very cold water into the bowl and mix thoroughly. Add a teaspoon of water at a time and mix until the mixture reaches a thick paste-like consistency.

    • 3

Spoon the mixture into the baby-themed candy molds. Fill each mold about three-quarters full and then press down firmly on the sugar mixture to pack it tightly into the mold. Each mold should be about one-half full when you finish packing the sugar.

    • 4

Set the molds aside and let the sugar dry for at least 12 hours.

    • 5

Tip the molds over onto a piece of wax paper. Lay each sugar cube flat side down.

    • 6

Attach a small, round icing tip to a pastry bag and fill the bag with royal icing. Squeeze gently to decorate the top of each cube. You can also use the royal icing to cover the entire top of the cubes. Let the icing dry thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Each batch of mixture will yield about 12 small cubes.

  • Do not use the royal icing if you intend to use the sugar cubes in tea or coffee. Add color to the sugar shapes with food coloring instead. To make different-colored sugar cubes, mix a little bit of food coloring into the water before adding it to the sugar. Add more coloring to the mixture, if necessary, and mix the color throughout.
