How to Make Good Smelling Clay
Making homemade clay is a rewarding rainy day activity for kids. However, some clay is unscented or even smells unpleasant. Create clay that will be a joy to work with by adding some spices to it. Spiced clay can even be used to make ornaments or other crafts because it will harden by itself in a few days. Create lasting crafts and sculptures to keep with scented homemade clay.
Things You'll Need
- Mixing bowl
- 1 tbsp. each of cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger, and cloves
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup applesauce

1
Combine the dry spices in a large mixing bowl. Use the combination of spices to make the scent you desire, such as ginger and cinnamon, cloves with nutmeg, or combine all of them for a pumpkin pie scented dough.
-
2
Add the applesauce, white craft glue and vanilla to the spices and use your hands to work the ingredients together until dough is formed. The dough should be free of large lumps and of an easy kneading consistency.

Add more spices if the dough seems too wet or thin, which may be a result of the applesauce. Continue to knead the dough until it is firm. Create ornaments with cookie cutters if you desire, or sculpt projects out of the dough and lay them on a rack to dry if you want to keep your craft.
