How to Crochet a Headband With a Single Crochet
A single crochet headband is an easy thing to make if you are familiar with crocheting, whether an expert or a beginner. The headband can be as narrow or as wide as you want it to be. You can also use any color or type of yarn, or even change colors between rows. Use a hook appropriately-sized for the yarn you choose; thicker, heavier yarns go with larger hooks and vice versa. The thicker the yarn, the thicker the headband will be.

1
Make a loop by crossing the yarn over itself, leaving a few extra inches at the end, and pulling the yarn through the circle. Place the loop onto the crochet hook.
-
2
Make a chain of four or more stitches, depending on how wide you want your headband to be. You can chain by grabbing the yarn with the crochet hook and pulling it through the loop on the hook.

3
Work a single crochet stitch into each chain. Insert the hook into the closest chain, grab the yarn with the hook and pull it back through the chain. Grab the yarn again with the hook and pull it through the 2 loops on the hook.
-
4
Make one chain, turn the project around, and work a single crochet stitch into each stitch.
-
5
Repeat until you have made a headband sufficiently long enough to wrap around your head.

6
Cut the yarn about 2 feet away from the last row. Pull the yarn all the way through the loop on the hook and secure it with an overhand knot. Thread the yarn needle and stitch the two ends of the headband together, tying the end with another overhand knot and trimming the yarn.

Tips & Warnings
The type of yarn you use will determine how many stitches you need to a row to make it the right width for you. The type of yarn will also determine how stretchy or inflexible the headband is, which will determine how long you need to make it.
In a pattern, a single crochet is referred to as "sc."
