How to Make Pumpkin Pincushions
A pumpkin pincushion is an entertaining way to bring seasonal decorating to the crafting process. Many pincushions look like apples or tomatoes, but changing the fabric will transform the pincushion from tomato into a bright orange pumpkin. The pumpkin pincushion is the ideal fall or thanksgiving gift for a crafty person. You can also use the pincushions as decorations. Add a black felt face to the pumpkin to transform it into a Halloween pincushion.

1
Cut a 6 or 8 inch circle from the orange fabric or felt. Use the larger circle for a larger pincushion.
-
2
Cut two leaf shapes from green felt. Cut two 2-by-3 rectangles from brown felt for a stem. Sew the two brown rectangles together leaving one side open. Turn the rectangles inside out. Stuff the inside of the rectangles with polyester stuffing. Sew the bottom opening closed.

3
Sew a seam around the circumference of the circle about ¼ of an inch away from the edge. Sew a second seam about ½ an inch away from the top edge. Pull the ends of the threads tight.
-
4
Fill the inside of the circle with polyester stuffing. Put in enough stuffing to make the pumpkin semi-hard inside. You can also add a small packet of sand in the bottom to give the cushion weight.
-
5
Place the bottom of the stem inside the hole in the center of the pumpkin. Sew the top closed by hand.
-
6
Sew the leaves to the top of the pumpkin, hiding the joint between the pumpkin and stem.
