How to Make a Paper & Tulle Princess Hat
Many children enjoy dressing in costumes and playing games of pretend, but finding or making good costumes can sometimes be quite complex or expensive. Fortunately, some costumes and accessories are quite simple to make from ordinary materials, and a child may enjoy making his or her own costume pieces. A paper princess hat with a tulle train is an example of a simple project that is easy for a child to embellish in order to suit her tastes.

1
Trace a large half circle on a sheet of heavy paper using a compass or by tracing around a large circular object. The larger the circle is, the taller the hat will be. Cut out the shape with scissors.
-
2
Pull the two edges of the half circle together to form a cone, then glue or staple into place. You might want to overlap the edges to make a narrower cone. Staples are faster and glue looks tidier. Paint the hat if desired before moving on.

3
Cut a length of elastic cord and staple one end to either side of the hat. This cord will hold the hat on during wear.
-
4
Decorate the hat with ribbons, flowers, glitter, stick-on gems or other easily glued objects. Your child may want to paint designs on the hat or add paper cutouts, as well.
-
5
Cut a square of tulle, then clip it to the very tip of the hat. Push a corner of the tulle square into the open tip just far enough for the square to stay in place. Add a little glue on the inside to prevent the tulle from falling out during play.
