Turn some curly ribbon into creative clothing embellishments.

Transform some curly ribbon into decorative pompoms to embellish clothing, home decor accessories or to attach to a hair clip. Make small, curly pompoms to attach all the way around the hemline of a child’s skirt or make a couple larger pompoms to attach to the ends of a new scarf or attach the pompoms to wooden dowels and fill a flower vase with the pompom flowers. The pompoms are simple to make and open up a wide variety of unique decoration opportunities.

Things You'll Need

  • Ribbon (1/2-inch-wide)
  • Wooden dowels (1/4-inch-wide)
  • Stay-cool clips or clothes pegs
  • Cookie sheet
  • Stretchy cord or string

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a piece of elastic cord on your work surface. The elastic should be at least 8-inches long.

    • 2

Lay the curly ribbons together centered on the elastic with the ends of the ribbons evenly aligned.

    • 3

Wrap the elastic up and over the top of the center of the ribbons.

    • 4

Tug on the elastic firmly and tie the elastic ends in a tight knot. This creates the pompom shape. Move the elastic ends to the underside of the ribbons and tie another knot.

    • 5

Tug gently on the ends of the ribbon to make sure each end is aligned to create a neat, spherical pompom.
