How Do You Get Into the Basement of the Deku Tree in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time"?
When Link first steps into the Deku Tree, the first dungeon undertaken in the game, the camera pans around to show several levels connected by walls of vines; the center of the floor is dominated by a huge spider web. Although it is clear that by looking beneath the web this is the direction Link must go, the only hint is the fairy Navi's clue that the web seems stretchy and breakable.

Tips & Warnings
Players cannot access the Deku Tree without the Kokiri Sword, which is already in your inventory at this point in the game.
While in midair falling toward the middle web, pull back on the thumbstick to nullify Link's forward momentum, assuring he stays lined up. There is only one thumbstick on the Nintendo 64 controller.
If you hit the web too close to its edge, Link's momentum won't break through the web and you will have to climb to the top of the room to attempt the jump again.
