Always wear layers that can be removed if necessary.

Golf, a game that is played outdoors, is perpetually at the mercy of the elements of nature and weather. Wind, rain, sunlight and excessive heat or cold are all parts of the game at different times. Learning to properly deal and prepare for these climate changes can be just as important as learning the fundamentals of the game itself. Particularly with protecting against the cold, there are some definite proper and improper wardrobe selections.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Put on warm pants to protect your legs from the cold. Wool pants are ideal for extreme cold (50 degrees Fahrenheit or lower), but can be uncomfortable in just an average cool climate (anything above 50 degrees Fahrenheit). The best is a simple thick cotton that won't hinder the motion necessary in a golf swing.

    • 2

Keep your feet warm and dry with thick sock s and water resistant shoes. Most golf shoes are inherently water proof, but make sure yours are. All the warm clothes in the world aren't going to help if your feet are damp and cold.

    • 3

Put on a baggy, long sleeve shirt. The sleeves will assist in keeping your body heat inside, while the bagginess will allow your arms to continue a free motion that is necessary in any golf swing.

    • 4

A wind breaker will again work to keep your body heat inside and resist any outside moisture, including rain drops or simple morning dew.

    • 5

Wear a beanie cap on your head. Most of your body's warmth escapes through your head, which a beanie hat will counteract.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can choose to wear gloves between golf swings, but it is strongly advised they be removed prior to gripping your clubs. Wearing anything other than a specified golf glove can hinder your ability to properly grip and swing your clubs.

  • Be aware that cold conditions can quickly change in many areas, so always wear layers of garments, so you can easily remove layers if the conditions begin to warm.
