How to Hand Stamp a Fabric
Transform an ordinary fabric into one that is extraordinary by hand stamping it with rubber stamps and paint. Rubber stamps come in many shapes and sizes with just about any design you can think of, but are not just for paper items. Rubber stamps, with the help of some other basic craft supplies, can work just as well on fabrics like T-shirts, tote bags or linens.

1
Lay your fabric on a flat surface with a piece of cardboard underneath it. For a shirt, place the cardboard inside the shirt so that paint does not bleed through onto the back of the shirt.
-
2
Squeeze some paint onto a sheet of foil, making sure to leave enough space between different colors of paint to avoid blending. Use fabric paint for the best result or acrylic paint as an alternative.

3
Dip your craft sponge into the paint of your choice and use it to dab paint onto the rubber stamp. Continue dabbing paint onto the stamp until it is well coated but not dripping. By using a craft sponge, you reduce the chances of getting too much paint on the stamp and smudging the design on your fabrics.
-
4
Press the freshly painted stamp onto the fabric in one motion, keeping it as flat on the fabric as possible. Use a moderate amount of pressure without wiggling or moving the stamp, since this will cause the paint to smudge. When removing the stamp, lift it straight up from the fabric.

5
Repeat with additional stamps or colors until you are satisfied with the results. If you are using different colors for the same stamp, wash it between uses with soap and water and allow it to dry before continuing.
