How to Clean Vacuum Cleaner Hoses and Tubes
Vacuum cleaners with hoses and tubes provide a wide range of cleaning functionality. They can be used to clean between furniture seat cushions and drapery as well as other hard to reach areas of the home. However, over time and with use, the hoses and tubes that comprise a vacuum cleaner's extended cleaning system can become internally encrusted with dirt. Things You'll Need
- Wire coat hanger
- Washcloth-size rag
- Duct tape
- General purpose spray cleaner

Straighten a wire coat hanger and squeeze the loop end together to make it narrower and more oblong.

Wrap a washcloth-size rag around the loop end of the hanger. Wrap the rag so all the edges can be gathered around the bottom of the loop. Tape the edges of the rag to the hanger using duct tape. Spray the rag with a general purpose cleaner.

Push the rag end of the wire hanger into the hoses and tubes and use it like a bottle brush. Pull the rag out frequently to remove dirt and apply more cleaner. Insert the hanger from both ends on long hoses. Keep scrubbing the interior of the hoses and tubes until it's apparent that no more dirt is being extracted by the rag.
