Instructions for the Sculpey Mold Maker
Many crafters incorporate shapes such as shells and decorative patterns into their projects, but balk at the idea of having to sculpt each one individually. Sculpey Mold Maker is designed to create simple molds to use with their polymer clay lines. You can make multiple copies of interesting shapes, eliminating the need for fine detail sculpting. Add the clay shapes to items such as homemade picture frames, coasters, jewelry, holiday decorations or children's toys.
Things You'll Need
- Mold Maker clay
- Cornstarch
- Object to be molded
- Aluminum foil
- Baking sheet
- Oven
- Polymer clay
Instructions
-
-
1
Knead the Mold Maker clay until it is soft and malleable.
-
2
Form the clay into a rectangle that is slightly larger than the object that you are molding.
-
-
3
Dust the surface of the clay with cornstarch to help prevent the clay from sticking to the object that you are molding.
-
4
Press a small object, such as a seashell, decorative coin or doll's face into the Mold Maker clay.
-
5
Carefully pull the object out of the clay, leaving an impression behind.
-
6
Place the clay on a foil-covered baking sheet and bake it at 275 degrees. Every 1/4-inch of thickness in the Mold Maker clay requires 20 minutes of baking time. For example, if the mold is 1/2-inch thick, bake it for 40 minutes.
-
7
Allow the mold to cool before pressing polymer clay into it. Flex the mold to pop the clay back out, producing clay versions of the original object.
