1
Fold a square scarf in half, diagonally. You will have an isosceles triangle with two long points on the side, a short point in the front and a straight line in the back.
-
2
Hold one long point in each hand and the scarf centered behind your head. Position the scarf with the straight line running across the nape of your neck, just above the hairline. The long points should be on opposite sides of your head. The short point should be covering the top of your head and pointing down your face.

3
Pull the sides of scarf around to the front of your head. Tie a single knot with the long corners. Center the knot at the front of your head, 2 or 3 inches back from your hairline. Tie the knot on top of the fabric that points down your face, and leave that fabric hanging for now.
-
4
Pull the sides of the scarf around to the back of your head. Tie a double-knot with the corners, and tuck the tails of the double-knot under the tied material to hide them.
-
5
Lift the corner of the fabric pointing down your face. Pull it back over the single knot in the front, and tuck the corner under the knot from behind until you have secured all the loose fabric. Arrange the fabric around the front knot to achieve the look you desire.

6
Gather the oblong scarf in your hands. Hold each end in each hand, and center the scarf behind your head evenly.
-
7
Pull the sides of the scarf around to the front of your head. Cross the ends past each other in the center of your head, 2 or 3 inches back from your hairline. Switch the ends in your hands to cross them.
-
8
Cross the ends again in the same place to create the appearance of a twisted knot. Switch the ends in your hands again to make the second cross.
-
9
Pull the ends around to the back of your head. Tie them in a double-knot at the nape of your neck, and tuck the tails of the double-knot under the wrapped material to hide them.
-
10
Position the urban twist in the front, as needed.
