How to Remove a Camper Toilet

How to Remove a Camper Toilet thumbnail
Removing the toilet is a painless task.

Removing the camper toilet is necessary for repairs and replacements. The toilet seals go bad and cause leaking, and plastic toilets will crack and require a replacement or serious repair. Luckily, removing the toilet is a simple task. The toilet in most RVs and campers is bolted down and easily removed with a common wrench. Removing the toilet can be accomplished by a single person in several minutes. New toilets and replacement seals are also widely distributed through RV dealers.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your water pump and remove the water hose from the camper. Shutting off the water is a critical element and prevents leaking inside the camper.

    • 2

Flush the toilet to drain any excess water and unscrew the water line from the back or bottom of the toilet.

    • 3

Locate the nuts on the toilet base and unscrew each with a crescent wrench. RV and camper toilets typically come with two or four nuts on the toilet base.

    • 4

Lift the toilet off the floor to remove it from the camper. Place the toilet in a large garbage bag to contain any debris before carrying it out of the bathroom.

    • 5

Stuff an old towel in the hole to contain debris and odors until a new toilet is installed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Replace the seal after removing the toilet. Although the toilet is easy to remove, replacing the seal saves you time and effort in the future.
