  • Scrap fabric

Keep diapers conveniently nearby at change time in a homemade diaper stacker.

A diaper stacker is a convenient nursery accessory that is attached to a change table or door handle and filled with a good supply of diapers. Make a diaper stacker at home for your new baby from an old pillowcase instead of purchasing one new at the store. Adorn the simple diaper stacker with decorative trim along the opening and add simple ties to the back to hang it anywhere you like.

Step 1

Iron the pillowcase to get rid of any wrinkles. Lay one short end in front of you and measure across the width to find the center. Make a mark with the tailor's chalk. Slide the tape measure along the length of the pillowcase, making a mark at the center every few inches. Connect the dots to make one long line.

Step 2

Measure three inches from each short end and make a mark at the center line. Cut a long slit in the fabric in along the center line, in between the marks at either end. Cut through just the top layer of fabric.

Step 3

Lay your tape measure at one end of the slit and measure the length of the slit. Cut two pieces of double-fold binding tape, each to this length.

Step 4

Open the fold on one piece of tape and sandwich one side of the slit in between the tape. Pin the tape in place. Repeat to add the other piece of binding tape. Sew a straight stitch along each piece of tape.

Step 5

Turn the pillowcase inside out and pin the open short end closed. Sew a straight stitch along the end to keep it closed. Turn the fabric right-side out through the front slit.

Step 6

Cut a 3 1/2-inch by 10-inch piece of cardboard. Cut a piece of scrap fabric. Make the scrap 7 1/2 inches wide by 10 1/2 inches long. Wrap the fabric around the cardboard and sew the ends of the fabric to keep the cardboard within.

Step 7

Slide the fabric-covered cardboard into the closed, short end of the pillowcase to create a firm, wide bottom on which to stack the diapers.

Step 8

Cut two pieces of the binding tape, each one about 10 inches long. Sew all of the open edges of each piece closed. Pin one short end of each together at the back center of the pillowcase, just beneath the edge you just sewed shut.
