How to Change the Bulb on an Overhead Door Opener
Automatic garage door openers use timed lighting systems that energize when the door opens. The overhead door light operates independently of any other switched lighting the garage may have. It provides illumination for a preset amount of time, which is usually sufficient for exiting your vehicle or reaching a light switch. When the light bulb used in the overhead door opener fails, it can be replaced with another bulb of the correct wattage as recommended by the manufacturer. You can change the bulb with the proper tools and basic, do-it yourself skills. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings
A sticker is usually mounted on the garage door opener light fixture to indicate the proper bulb wattage. In lieu of a sticker, most manufacturers recommend using no more than 60-watt rough service bulbs.
Incandescent bulbs should be used in garage door openers. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are not recommended because of their fragility.
Light bulbs can be changed with the garage door open or closed.
Wear safety glasses and gloves when changing light bulbs in garage door openers.
