How to Fix a Lopsided Washer
Lopsided or off-balance washing machines make more noise during spin cycles, rock back and forth, and occasionally "walk" or vibrate across the floor. Normally a washing machine is balanced during installation, but over time the effects of numerous cycles can throw the legs out of alignment. You might also find your washing machine is lopsided if you move it to a new location. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Empty the washing machine, and place a spirit level parallel with the front edge, then the side, taking note of the bubble in vial. The washer is properly balanced when the bubble falls between the markings in both positions.
-
2
Tip the washer back, and place a wooden block between the bottom of the appliance and the floor. This raises the front feet off the ground, making it easier to adjust the balance. Let the washer rest on the wood.

3
Loosen the jam nut, located on the feet of some washers, so you can adjust the height. Twist the feet to extend or retract them into the washing machine. You might need to raise one leg more than the other if your floor is not level.

Check your progress by removing the wooden block and repeating Step 1. You might need to make several adjustments before you fully correct the wobble.
