How to Make a Door Breeze Stopper
Most doors do not fit snugly into their frames. The small slit that most doors have at their base allows breezes to infiltrate rooms, causing a loss of heat. Fortunately, with a few sewing basics and some items from your household, you can create a personalized and efficient door breeze stopper. This snakelike creation closes up the bottom slit of a door, trapping in warm air and stopping breezes from entering.
Things You'll Need
- Yard stick
- 1 yard sturdy tightly-woven material, such as denim or rayon twill
- Fabric marker
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Sewing notions
- Funnel

1
Measure the width of the bottom of your door using a yard stick. Add 1 inch to this measurement. Mark out a rectangle on some sturdy fabric measuring the final width of your door by 8 inches. Cut out this rectangle.
-
2
Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise with the right side of the fabric facing in. Sew along one short side of the folded rectangle and along the long side using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Turn the tube right side out.

3
Place a funnel into the top opening of the fabric tube. Pour in the kitty litter, sand or gravel until the tube is completely full and taut. Leave about 1 to 2 inches of space at the top of the tube for finishing.
-
4
Tuck in the top 1/2 inch of fabric to hide the raw edges from view. Sew the opening shut using a 3/8-inch seam allowance on your sewing machine.
-
5
Place the stopper along the base of the door. Push against the body of the stopper to ensure it seals out any drafts.
