How to Make Newspaper Wrapping Look Cute

Recycle newspapers by using them to wrap cute gifts.

For years, people have wrapped gifts with things other than wrapping paper, such as newspapers. Wrapping with newspapers is an economical way to wrap gifts and is also eco-friendly because it recycles goods. People also use newspaper to wrap gifts when they are out of wrapping paper. A present wrapped in newspaper can often look quite gaudy; however, it doesn’t have to. There are several ideas you can use to make a gift wrapped in newspaper look cute.

Instructions

1. Determine how much newspaper you need. This will depend on how big or small the gift is and how creative you want to be.

2. Sort through your stack of newspapers to see what you have. As you are looking, pull out papers that have cool or unique headlines or papers that have interesting pictures. You might be able to find a picture that relates to the gift or to the occasion the gift is for. As you choose a piece to use, make sure that the headlines do not contain inappropriate wordings as well, such as “Rise in the Murder Numbers this Quarter.”

3. Use comics. A lot of people wrap with the comics because they are cute and colorful.

4. Turn your gift into a mystery. Let the recipient of the gift guess what it is by carefully choosing newspaper clippings that offer clues about the gift. For example, if the gift is a DVD, make sure there is a movie theater ad showing.

5. Wrap the gift. After you find a good piece to use, wrap the gift. If you found a piece with an interesting picture, make sure the picture is showing on the top of the gift. Do the same thing with a unique headline. If you do this, you can continue decorating the gift using the theme of the picture or headline. You do not have to limit your gift wrapping to only one sheet of newspapers. You can always tape many pages together to get the right effect.

6. Spice it up with ribbons and bows. Use different colored ribbons or bows to make the present look cute. Make bows or flowers with tissue paper to place on top of the gift or embellish it with stickers and cute objects. For a child, attach several pieces of candy or small toys to distract the child from the newspaper wrapping.
