How to Connect a Drum Trigger to an LED
Drum triggers are used with electronic drum pads. When the drum pad is struck the sound is transferred from a piezo transducer to a speaker or amplifier. A piezo transducer is a small metal disc attached with wires sending an electronic pulse. As a science project for school you can illuminate an LED light by wiring it to a wire a piezo transducer of a drum trigger. To do this, you will require the use of a transistor.
Things You'll Need
- Piezo transducer
- Wire strippers
- Battery box
- LED light
- Transistor
- Electrical wire
- Soldering iron
Instructions
-
-
1
Pry the casing off of the piezo transducer by using the pliers. Strip 1/4 of an inch of insulation from the wires with the wire strippers.
-
2
Strip 1/4 of an inch of insulation from the red and black wires of the LED light. Connect the piexo's red wire to the “positive” terminal on the battery box.

3
Solder the piezo's black wire to a resistor with the soldering iron. Solder the red wire of the LED to the transistor. Connect the LED's black wire to the “Negative” terminal on the battery box.
-
4
Insert the batteries into the battery box. Press on the metal plate of the piezo transducer to power on the LED light.
