How to Create a Dinosaur Themed Room for a Child

Give a child who loves dinosaurs his own room devoted to the creatures.

When choosing a theme for a child's room, most parents want to select something that the child won't grow out of quickly. Many children have a love of dinosaurs that extends from a very young age through the teen years, so it is a choice that could last for several years. With jurassic-style bedding, wall decor, and accessories, kids are sure to fall in love with their dinosaur room.

Instructions

1. Choose bedding and pillows. For many kids, the bed is the focal point of the room so choose the bedding you like and work from there. There are many sheet sets with dinosaurs to choose from. Choose a solid colored comforter or top blanket and then choose some pillows and a throw blanket with dinosaurs to accent the top of the bed. If the love of dinosaurs fades, the most expensive feature, the comforter, can stay.

   Prepare the walls with a fresh coat of paint.

   Wake up the walls. Paint the walls with a fresh coat of paint. Blue or tan are two colors that typically work well with dinosaur accessories that have darker browns and greens. For an eye-popping room, paint a large mural or purchase a large peel-and-stick dinosaur from a retailer. Wallpaper borders and jungle-type greenery on the walls will also give the room a "wow" factor.

3. Add some dinosaur decor. To continue the theme, consider other places in the room to include some dinosaurs to complete the look, and consider purchasing dinosaur throw rugs, lamps or switch-plates. Some large silk potted plants in the corners and vines hanging from the ceiling can turn the room into a realistic-looking dinosaur jungle.

   Invest in age-appropriate dinosaurs to use for fun and decoration.

   Place some dinosaur toys around the room. For younger children, place some stuffed dinosaurs and large plastic ones on shelves that will add decoration and also entertain children. Older children may enjoy dinosaur skeletons that they can put together, puzzles and books about dinosaurs.
