iTunes in the cloud is one feature of Apple's new iCloud product.

One new feature introduced for the Apple iTunes software in 2011 was a cross-platform sync process. The feature let you sync your purchases from iTunes on your computer automatically with iTunes on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad devices. By default, this feature is turned off. You must enable it on each device and for each individual purchase type to use iTunes in the cloud.

Instructions

  1. Enable on Computer

      Double-click the "iTunes" icon on your computer's desktop screen.

      Click the "Edit" menu, then click "Preferences" and go to the "Store" tab in the pop-up window.

      Check the boxes for each purchase type you want to automatic sync and download. The three types are music, apps and books. Also, check the "Always Check for Available Downloads" box, then click the "OK" button. The iTunes software on your computer automatically syncs with the cloud and downloads purchases to your computer.

    Enable on Device

      Turn on the Apple iOS device, then go to the home screen and tap the "Settings" icon.

      Tap the "Store" button from the Settings menu.

      Move the slider for each purchase type from the Off position to On. The three purchase types are music, apps and books. Press the device's "Home" button when finished. Your iOS device now syncs and downloads new files from the cloud into the iTunes app.
