Things You'll Need

  • Rigid headband, 1/4- to 1/2-inch wide
  • Spool of ribbon, 1/4-inch wide
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Silk flowers or petals
  • Rhinestones or brooch

Instructions

  1. Floral headband

    • 1

      Apply a peppercorn-sized bead of hot glue to the underside of the headband at one end.

      Press the end of 1/4-inch wide ribbon into the glue.

      Wind the ribbon around the rigid band in an overlapping corkscrew pattern to cover it entirely. Continue around the band until you get to the other end.

      Apply another bead of hot glue to the interior side of the headband at the end. Press the ribbon into the glue.

      Trim the ribbon with scissors next to the hot glue.

      Glue small blooms or individual petals on the headband.

    Jeweled Headband

      Apply a peppercorn-sized bead of hot glue to the underside of the headband at one end.

      Press the end of 1/4-inch wide ribbon into the glue.

      Wind the material around the rigid band in an overlapping corkscrew pattern to cover it entirely. Continue around the band until you get to the other end.

      Apply another bead of hot glue to the interior side of the headband at the other end. Press the ribbon into the glue.

      Trim the ribbon with scissors, next to the hot glue.

      Glue each gemstone with a bead of hot glue slightly smaller than the width of the stone. Place the stones in a continuous row for an understated accessory.

      Wrap the pin on the back of a brooch to the headband with ribbon, or hot glue the brooch to the band's surface, if desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Small silk flowers look more delicate and luxe than large fabric-based blooms. Avoid giant roses and opt for quarter-size blossoms.

  • Use metallic-colored ribbon to compliment the jeweled theme of the headband, if desired.

  • Using a piece of jewelry saves you the effort of attempting detailed placement with individual crystals.
