Kids often enjoy making Valentine's Day crafts.

On Valentine’s Day, people celebrate friendship and love. For children, Valentine’s Day is an exciting time to exchange small cards and candies with their friends. At school, teachers sometimes help the children create boxes in which to store their cards. A paper mache Valentine box is an imaginative box that is ideal for students to place all of their cards in. These boxes are also great to make to give as gifts on Valentine’s Day or on any other special occasion.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine which boxes to use. Paper mache projects require that students begin with some type of object. The students then use newspapers and paper mache paste to complete the box. For a Valentine box, use empty tissue boxes or purchase small craft boxes. Craft boxes can be inexpensive and often come in many different sizes and shapes.

Prepare the paste. To make paper mache paste, place flour in a bowl and add water, a little at a time, until the mixture looks like a soupy paste.

    • 3

Dip strips of newspapers in the paste. Place the strips of newspapers around the box. Continue to do this until the box is completely covered. If using a tissue box, cut out an opening on the top of the box that is large enough to place Valentine cards or other items into. When applying the strips of paper, tuck them into the opening on the top of the box and fold them over, making the opening smooth.

    • 4

Let it dry. After applying the paper mache, set the box aside overnight to let it completely dry.

    • 5

Paint the box. Use colorful, Valentine’s Day colors, such as reds and pinks, to paint the Valentine box. After you are done, set it aside and let it dry completely.

    • 6

Use the box. If you are using the box for Valentine’s Day cards, have the children set their boxes on their desks. The students then take turns walking around the classroom, depositing a card into each child’s box.
