How to Change the Speakers in a Princeton Reverb
The Princeton Reverb is a guitar combo amp made by Fender. One of the company's longest-serving models, it was initially introduced in 1965. The "Combo" in the name means that the amplification stage has its own built-in speaker, and both components are housed inside the same cabinet. If there's a fault with your speaker, or you just want to swap it out for a different sound, it's a fairly simple process.

1
Ensure the amplifier is powered off, and disconnect it from the main power supply. Flip the master power switch on and off two or three times to ensure all residual electricity is discharged from the amplifier's capacitors.
-
2
Locate the connection from the power stage at the top of the amplifier. Depending on the specific model of your Princeton, there may be a single wire, or a red and black pair. Either way, the wire or wires will be attached to the speaker with a simple slide-off spade connector. Disconnect the wires from the speaker.

3
Use the screwdriver to loosen and remove all of the screws holding the speaker's metal surround to the back of the cabinet. Store them in a safe place.
-
4
Lift the speaker out of the cabinet. This can be tricky, particularly as the large magnet on the back of the speaker can get stuck to the metal body of the power stage. Try to keep the magnet side pointed down as you lift it out.
-
5
Slide the new speaker into the cabinet and fasten it to the front wall using the mounting screws. Attach the spade connectors from the power stage and switch on the amplifier.
