Sewing a Liner for Leg Warmers

Leg warmers complement an outfit while covering a wearer's shins.

Leg warmers are typically long tubes that fit over a wearer's shins. They add a decorative value to your outfit while also keeping cold temperatures from reaching your legs. These utilitarian accessories can be worn under skirts, over pants and almost any other way imaginable for informal clothing. Attaching a fleece liner gives thinner leg warmers an extra warm and snug quality. The solid composition of fleece also spares you from having to add extra hems.

Instructions

    • 1

Use measuring tape to measure the length of your leg warmers. If your leg warmers have elastic or ribbing at the top or bottom, exclude those sections from your measurement.

    • 2

Measure around the outside of the leg warmers to find their circumference.

    • 3

Cut two pieces of fleece fabric with scissors. The length of the fabric should match the measured length of the leg warmers. The width should match the circumference of the legwarmers, plus 1 inch.

    • 4

Fold the two pieces of fleece fabric in half lengthwise. Use the needle and thread to sew down the open side of each piece, 1/2 inch inward from the edge.

    • 5

Use an iron's low heat setting to press the seams open flat.

    • 6

Slip each fleece tube inside each leg warmer, making sure the fleece tubes line up with the top and bottom edges of the leg warmers. If your leg warmers feature elastic or ribbing at the top and bottom edges, make sure the fleece tubes do not overlap those sections.

    • 7

Sew a straight line across the top and bottom of the fleece tubes, going through both the fleece and the leg warmer fabric.
