How to Fix an Applique
Iron-on appliques are often damaged due to rough treatment, exposure to extreme temperatures and normal wear and tear. Repairing a damaged applique is possible, though its appearance might not be as precise as when originally applied.

Glue
-
1
Ensure that the glue you are using is fabric-safe. Fabric glue is available at most major craft or sewing shops.
-
2
Lift the edge of the applique with your finger. Apply a small amount of glue to the underside of the applique if only a corner or edge is detached. Remove the applique and apply glue to the entire surface if a large section is detached. Always apply glue to the underside of the applique itself, not the fabric.

-
3
Place the fabric on a firm, flat surface. Place a weight or other heavy object atop the applique until the glue dries. Drying times vary based on the brand of glue used. Check the packaging information for specifications.
Sewing

4
Choose a thread color that matches the applique's color. If this isn't possible, choose a color with a minimum of contrast.
-
5
Make your first stitch about 1/5 inch from the edge of the applique. A large needle might be required to push through the applique's backing.
-
6
Sew around the applique until it is fastened securely to the fabric. Sew a crossing pattern through the center of the applique if your thread color matches. This provides greater durability.
