How to Size a Firebox Draft Blower
A firebox draft blower blows the hot air created inside the firebox into the room. You can use blowers with heating systems or indoor or outdoor grills and cooking devices. The blower should be large enough to create the desired heat level without causing the risk of burning or overheating. Many fireboxes come with built-in blowers, but you can also purchase separate blowers to install in place of the original blower instead. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Inspect the existing blower inside your grill or firebox. Look at the data sheet for the blower written on the side of the blower or included in the firebox manual.
-
2
Look for draft blower systems compatible with your firebox unit. Larger rooms require larger blowers, but you should never use a blower that is too large for your firebox, or else you could increase the risk of fires.

Choose a blower that fits in an opening between 3 and 9 inches. Look for blowers that produce about 115 volts. Choose a unit that uses between 74 and 224 watts. Use the lower wattage for smaller boxes and rooms and the higher wattage for larger rooms and firebox units. Use a unit with between 1/20th of a horsepower or 1/30th of a horsepower. The higher powers reach the desired temperature sooner than the lower horsepower.

Position the new blower in place of the old blower. Size up or down deepending on the size of the vent opening in your particular firebox unit. It may be helpful to purchase two or three different sizes to determine which fits the best inside your firebox.
