How to Troubleshoot a Maytag Cordless Iron
The Maytag cordless iron can be used in a room without a plug-in or taken on vacation with you. Also, since the power cord is attached to the charging cradle rather than the iron, you don’t have to spend time trying to avoid it while you work. However, there are times when the iron may not perform as well as you’d like. For example, it may stop smoothing out wrinkles as well or may no longer hold a charge. There are time- and money-saving measures you can take to find and repair the problems yourself rather than taking the iron to a repair shop. Consult your owner’s manual for information specific to your iron. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Inspect the sole plate, or surface, of the Maytag iron. If there are scratches on the sole plates this is a result of running over metal buttons or zippers. If there is white powder discharged from the iron during steam bursts this is normal. The powder can be brushed from clothing when it is dry. However, if the sole plate is stained or dirty wipe it off with a damp cloth so it doesn’t ruin clothes.

2
Listen to the sounds the iron makes. If you hear clicking noises they are normal and are the sounds of the thermostat working. If you hear a clanking sound this is normal, too, and is the sound of the the anti-drip mechanism moving inside the iron.

3
Inspect the power cord. The power cord is attached to the cradle, not the iron. If your iron doesn’t come on or it is not hot check that the power cord is plugged into the wall socket. If the cord is damaged do not use the Maytag cordless iron.
-
4
Examine the charging pins on the iron and the contact points on the cradle. If the iron doesn’t charge up while it is in the cradle the charging pins or the contact points may be dusty. Wipe the pins and the contact points with a dry cloth. If the charging pins are bent don’t use the iron.
-
5
Inspect the cradle. If the cradle is broken or has been dropped don’t use the Maytag iron.
-
6
Inspect the temperature setting. If you use the iron on an incorrect temperature setting you may burn the clothes or be unable to get rid of wrinkles. Set the iron in the cradle then change the temperature. If the iron temperature is decreasing while you are using it set the iron back in the cradle to recharge.
-
7
Check the water tank. If the iron produces less steam or stops producing steam refill the water tank.
-
8
Observe proper operating procedure when using the steam feature. If water droplets form on the Maytag cordless iron, you are pushing the steam button too quickly. If the iron is not producing steam, you may need to push the steam button several times.
-
9
Avoid setting the Maytag cordless iron upside down or on its side. If you see leaks from the iron they are probably the result of the iron being set down improperly.
