How to Make Particle Board Look Like Wood
Particle board is a manufactured wood product created from scraps of wood, shavings and sawdust, pressure treated and pressed into blocks and planes, bound together by synthetic resin. This lumber product is much cheaper than other kinds of lumber, due to the much lower quality, which makes it very desirable to consumers who prefer low-cost furniture of limited durability. This exact idea is the principle that do-it-yourself furniture retailers, like IKEA, are founded on. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Go to a hardware or specialty lumber store and select your veneer. Veneer is a thin piece of real wood that is laid over a piece of a particle board to give the appearance of real wood for an low price. If possible, take your particle board plank to have the veneer machine-cut. Veneer should slightly overlap the surface of your particle board.

2
Sand off the surface of the particle board lightly and brush off dust and debris. The back of the veneer and the top of the particle board should be as smooth as possible. Paint shellac on both surfaces with a soft brush, then apply the veneer to the board, applying pressure with books or other flat objects.
