How to Attach Wooden Dowels to Masquerade Masks

Enhance a masquerade mask by mounting it on a stick.

A masquerade mask on a stick is an excellent prop for a play or a costume. It gives the person something to do with their hands and it's a simple object to make at home. A mask that's meant to be held on a stick should be light, but beyond that, there are no limitations to what the mask can look like and what style it should be. Make your own hand-held mask for the next costume party or masquerade.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut down a 1/4-inch dowel to a length of 12 inches with a saw.

    • 2

Sand the dowel smooth with 100-grit sandpaper.

    • 3

Paint the dowel with acrylic paint and a paintbrush. The color of the dowel should match or complement the color of your mask.

    • 4

Turn your masquerade mask over so that the front side is towards the working surface.

    • 5

Apply a thin vertical line of superglue between the edge of the mask and the eye hole. If you intend to carry the mask in your right hand, put the line to the right, and vice versa if you intend to hold it in the left hand.

    • 6

Press one end of the dowel along the line and hold it in place for one minute as the glue dries.
