How to Add Fringes to a Crocheted Shawl
If you crocheted a shawl yourself, you can use the same yarn you used in the shawl for a decorative fringe. If not, you can use a coordinating or contrasting color of yarn. Keep the same yarn thickness you used to crochet the shawl. For example, if you used worsted weight yarn for the shawl, use worsted weight yarn for the fringe. The fringe can be attached to the short ends of a rectangular shawl or along one entire side of a triangular shawl.
Instructions

1
Measure and cut the skein of yarn into 8-inch lengths, using the ruler and scissors. Divide the lengths into groups of three. Fold one group of three lengths in half.
-
2
Insert the crochet hook into the first edge crochet stitch on the shawl that will receive the fringe.
-
-
3
Grasp the folded center of the yarn-length group with the crochet hook and pull the strands through the stitch, leaving a 2-inch loop of the yarn group.
-
4
Take the hook out of the loop. Grab the ends of the yarn-length group with your hand and pull them through the loop, creating a knot.
-
5
Repeat Steps 2 to 4 with each group of yarn lengths along the shawl edge.
