DIY Locket Ring

Lockets aren't just for necklaces.

A locket is a necklace with two sides held together with a hinge. When opened, the locket can contain photos or small objects. While lockets are traditionally necklaces, most craft stores sell blank ring bases at inexpensive prices that provide a perfect surface for attaching a locket. Create a handmade, personal gift by crafting locket rings for friends and family.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any extraneous loops or hardware from your locket using the metal snips. If you plan to add a picture, place one side of the locket over the desired portion of the photo. Trace around the border with a pencil, but don't worry if your lines aren't perfect; you will trim the photo further after cutting it out.

    • 2

Cut out the picture and place it inside the locket to check the fit, trimming if necessary before gluing the photo in place. Arrange any other objects in the locket, making sure the photo or another larger object is the centerpiece for a balanced look. Consider adding crystals, beads, pearls or even dollhouse miniatures for a funky look.

    • 3

Glue your objects in place. If necessary, use the tweezers for more precise placement of the beads and miniatures. Glue the locket to the ring base and wait 24 hours for the glue to cure completely before wearing.

Tips & Warnings

  • If a soldering gun and solder are available to you, soldering the locket to the ring base is another option.

  • Make sure to use glue that will adhere metal to metal.
