How to Delete Startup From Regedit

The Windows registry contains system-specific information and settings about your computer’s hardware and software. When new programs or devices are installed on the computer, new entries, or keys, are created in the registry. If there are startup items in the Windows registry that are no longer needed or are corrupted, they can be removed. Registry keys can be modified or deleted by way of the Registry Editor program, which is bundled with all Windows systems.

Instructions

      Click on the “Start” menu button and type “regedit” into the search box.

      Right click on “regedit.exe” and click “Run as administrator” from the contextual menu. The Registry Editor will launch.

      Double-click “HKEY_CURRENT_USER,” double-click “Software,” double-click “Microsoft,” double-click “Windows,” double-click “CurrentVersion” and then double-click “Run.” A list of user account-specific registry keys related to startup items will appear in the right-hand panel.

      Right click on a registry key and select “Delete” from the contextual menu. Repeat for every registry key you wish to delete.

      Double-click “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,” double-click “SOFTWARE,” double-click “Microsoft,” double-click “Windows,” double-click “CurrentVersion” and then double-click “Run.” A list of general startup item registry keys will appear.

      Repeat Step 4.

      Click the “Close” box to close the Registry Editor.
