How to Change Lights in the Door of a Whirlpool Refrigerator

It probably hasn't happened often in your lifetime, but refrigerator light bulbs can burn out from time to time, requiring that you replace them. Like most refrigerators, Whirlpools require specific light bulbs. None are more than 40 watts, and different refrigerator models may require different bulbs, depending on the part of the refrigerator the light bulb serves. Instructions

      Unplug the Whirlpool refrigerator from the power outlet.

      Push the light bulb cover toward the back of the door and release it from the door.

      Unscrew the old light bulb and screw in the replacement bulb.

      Replace the light bulb cover over the bulb by inserting the tabs into the assembly and sliding it forward, clicking it into place.

      Plug the refrigerator back in to the power outlet.

Tips & Warnings

  • To know what replacement bulb to buy, either take the bulb you are replacing with you when you buy the replacement or consult your refrigerator's owner's manual. The replacement bulb should be an appliance bulb of the same size, shape and wattage as the one you are replacing.
