How to Replace a Kenmore Refrigerator's Door Seal

Kenmore refrigerators have a gasket that surrounds the perimeter of the fresh food and freezer compartment doors. The gasket is made of heavy rubber and is designed to prevent cold air from escaping the refrigerator. Because of the gasket's rubber composition, it will deteriorate after regular use, at which point the internal temperature of the refrigerator may begin to rise. If the gasket begins showing signs of wear, remove it from the door and install a new gasket.

Instructions

1. Open the door and remove the gasket. Grasp the corner of the gasket and pull it away from the door.

2. Hold the new gasket up to the door to ensure that it is oriented properly.

3. Align the corner of the gasket with the corner of the gasket channel.

4. Place your thumbs behind the door and your fingers on the gasket.

5. Squeeze the gasket into the gasket channel, using your thumbs against the door to provide additional leverage.

6. Continue working around the perimeter of the door, squeezing the gasket into the gasket channel until the entire gasket is installed.
