DIY Hanger Hook
Hanger hooks are useful items to have near front doors and in closets to provide a place to hang coats and other garments. If you have children, providing a place for coats may be the only way to keep track of them. You can make your own hanger hooks out of wood and paint them as desired. This is a fun project to involve your kids in -- just do all of the sawing and drilling in advance.

1
Cut a 5-inch circle out of 3/4-inch plywood with a jigsaw.
-
2
Drill a 1/2-inch hole through the circle. It should be positioned in the lower half of the circle, an inch above the bottom edge.

3
Cut a 3-inch piece of 1/2-inch wooden dowel.
-
4
Glue the dowel into the hole so that it extends from the surface and is flush with the back side. Use wood glue to do this, and allow it to dry on a sheet of wax paper.
-
5
Glue a wood ball dowel cap with a 1/2-inch pre-drilled hole to the end of the dowel, then allow the glue to dry.
-
6
Drill a 1/4-inch hole through the upper half of the circle, positioned an inch from the edge.
-
7
Paint and decorate the hanger hook as desired.
-
8
Screw the hanger hook to a wall through the 1/4-inch hole, then paint the screw head to match the rest of the hanger.
