Use decoupage glue to secure images to decorative objects.

Decoupage is the art of applying various types of paper to a surface and then sealing it in with a decoupage medium. Tissue paper, which comes in a wide variety of colors and is semi-translucent, may be cut and applied to objects, such as jars, vases, picture frames and collages. While it's possible to purchase a decoupage medium for tissue paper at craft or fabric stores, you can also make your own decoupage medium that suits this material.

Instructions

    • 1

Squeeze or pour white glue into a baby food jar until the jar is one-third full. Elmer’s glue or any type of white school glue will do.

    • 2

Fill the jar to the top with water. The water dilutes the glue, making it easier to work with and also helping it dry clear.

    • 3

Mix the water and the glue together in the jar thoroughly using a spoon. When the solution is thoroughly mixed, it can be applied to the tissue paper using a brush, just like a commercial decoupage medium.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add glitter or a few drops of paint to your decoupage medium and mix it in. This gives you a more textured and colorful effect to your decoupage project.

  • Add more water or more glue if you want to vary the consistency of your decoupage medium. Adding more water allows you to paint the decoupage medium onto the tissue paper more sleekly, while adding more glue allows you to create a more textured appearance.
