How to Add Tassels to a Crocheted Shawl
Winter months herald in the use of scarves, shawls and coats. If you have a crocheted shawl, or plan to make one, add some pizzazz to it by including a tassel fringe along all the edges of the shawl. This fringe only requires a crochet hook and some scissors and is good way to use up leftover yarn.

1
Calculate how many tassels you want to create on the shawl. Count how many stitches sit along the edges you want to add the tassels to. Multiply the number of edge stitches on the shawl by 6 to get the number of yarn pieces you need to cut. Cut out 6 lengths of yarn measuring about 12 inches for each tassel. Measure out each yarn length using a ruler.
-
2
Grab a bundle of 6 pieces of yarn. Fold the yarn pieces in half so that all the ends meet and a loop is created on the other end.

3
Push your crochet hook through a stitch along the edge of the shawl. Hook the crochet hook through the loop of yarn created in the previous step. Pull the loop of yarn back through the shawl stitch, leaving the dangling tails on the same side.
-
4
Remove the crochet hook from the yarn loop. Pull the loop down and around the edge of the shawl. Push the ends of the yarn through the yarn loop. Pull down on the dangling ends to secure the tassel in place.

5
Repeat these steps with another bundle of 6 yarn pieces, until you have added tassels along the entire edge of the shawl.
