How to Finish Off a Crocheted Ripple Afghan
The classic crocheted ripple afghan is a popular pattern, so simple to make that you can create it while watching television. After all the wavy rows are finished and the last row has been tied off, a ripple afghan somehow looks unfinished. Give your afghan a final touch by adding a thick row of fringe on each end. Fringe gives a ripple afghan a polished look and says that you took the time to add just a little bit of detail and care.

1
Cut strands of yarn 8 inches long. The number of yarn strands you need depends on the size of your finished afghan. Begin with 100 strands and cut more when you need them.
-
2
Take two strands of yarn in your hand and hold them together as one strand. Fold the strands in half to create a loop in the middle. Hold the yarn by the loose ends.

3
Push a crochet hook through the first stitch on the last row of the afghan. Grasp the loop in the yarn strands with the crochet hook. Pull the loop through the afghan until about one-third of the strands is through the afghan.

Remove the hook from the loop and set it aside. Reach through the loop with your fingers. Grasp all four short ends of the yarn strands and pull them through the loop. Pull the strands gently but firmly until the loop is snugged up against the afghan. This creates the first fringe in the row.

Add a fringe to every stitch in the last row in the afghan. Turn the afghan over and add fringes to every stitch in the first row in the same manner.
