Braiding eliminates heat damage from curling your hair.

Curling your hair by braiding it is healthier than using a hot curling iron or rollers, and less time consuming if you're already adept at braiding your hair. Applying a conditioner beforehand will keep hair soft and free of tangles as you braid it, and after your hair has dried. By following a few simple steps, you can make your hair soft, smooth and full of lustrous curls. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Shampoo and condition your hair as you normally would. Work the conditioner through your hair with your fingers, and use a wide comb or hair pick to distribute the conditioner evenly. Rinse the conditioner out of your hair.

    • 2

Separate your damp hair into sections. The smaller the section, the tighter the curls will be. To make larger waves, separate the hair into bigger sections to make larger braids.

    • 3

Braid your hair. Braid close to the scalp for a natural look. Braid loosely and further from the scalp to bring out waves for a more tousled style.

    • 4

Fasten each braid with an elastic or tie with fabric.

    • 5

Allow the braids to dry completely. Braid your hair in the evening and then sleep with the braids in to have the curliest effect.

    • 6

Remove the elastics or fabric ties at the end of the braids when your hair is completely dry. Carefully take the braids out and use your fingers to smooth and arrange your hair. Spray lightly with hairspray to hold your curls.
