How Do I Store Shovels & Rakes in a Box Truck?
A box truck is a lesser-known term for a box van or moving truck. These trucks have front cabins for two to three riders to sit and a large box-like structure in the rear which is used to move furniture, equipment and boxes. Box trucks are practical vehicles for landscapers or construction workers who need to haul shovels, rakes and other tools to work sites daily. They are also helpful for families moving from one home to another. Knowing how to pack the shovels and rakes into the box truck helps maximize your available space, allowing you more room in the truck for furniture and other items. Proper storing also protects furniture and other items from being damaged by the shovels and rakes.

1
Gather shovels together into stacks of five or six. Separate rakes into their own pile.
-
2
Tie five or six shovels together in bundles with twine. Cut a piece of twine to measure 12 inches long. Run it beneath the shovel handles, pull the ends so that they are even. Cross the ends and tie a simple knot in the twine. Bring the twine back beneath the shovel handles and repeat the process, knotting the ends a second time in the front of the stack. Set shovel bundle aside. Repeat the process, if necessary to bundle additional shovels.

3
Place rakes flat on floor. Stack up to four rakes with their handles parallel to each other. Cut a piece of twine to measure eight inches. Thread the end beneath the rake handles, two inches below the rake heads. Bring ends up and pull them even. Cross the ends and tie a simple knot in the twine ends. Loop the twine ends back around the rake handles and tie a second knot on top of the rakes.
-
4
Unfold a tarp or old blanket on the ground. Place the rakes flat in the center of the blanket or tarp. Lay the shovel bundle in the center of the blanket, next to the rakes with the shovel heads facing the opposite direction as the rake heads.
-
5
Bring the ends of the blanket or tarp in towards the center and wrap them around the tools. Wrap a piece of twine around the blanketed tools and tie a basic knot at the top to secure the blanket or tarp around the tools.
-
6
Lay the blanketed tools on the floor of the box truck in the back right corner. Or, if the box truck has a raised platform, place the blanketed tools flat up on the elevated platform.
