How to Crochet a Mop or Sweeper Cover
Spending money on disposable mop pads may seem like a waste of money, especially when you can make your own reusable mop or sweeper cover. Being able to wash these cotton mob covers for reuse saves the environment by not adding to landfills. Crochet your own covers or make them for gift-giving.

1
Crochet 55 chain stitches. Do this by forming a slip knot around the hook, bringing the hook under the yarn and pulling through the loop on the crochet hook. This makes one chain stitch. Continue to chain stitch until reaching 55 stitches.
-
2
Crochet a single crochet in the second chain stitch from the hook. Do this by inserting the hook into the chain stitch, yarning over the hook, pulling through the chain stitch, yarning over and pulling through both loops on the hook. Continue the single crochet to the end of the row, making 54 stitches across. Chain one stitch and turn the work.

3
Crochet a single crochet stitch into each single crochet stitch across the row. Chain one and turn. Continue crocheting rows of single crochet stitches until 21 rows are complete. Cut the yarn, leaving 2 inches remaining on the crocheted piece. Bring this end through the last loop on the hook and pull it taut.

4
Lay the piece on a flat surface. Count nine stitches across from either end and fold the ends up onto itself. This forms a flap on either end of the mop cover.
-
5
Pick up the work and single crochet through the first two stitches, starting at the fold. Crochet through both thicknesses for the first nine stitches. Continue to single crochet across through one layer until you reach the other folded end. Continue by crocheting through both thicknesses for the last nine stitches. Cut and tie off in the same manner as before.
-
6
Repeat this process for the other side of the mob cover. Cut and tie off the yarn. This process forms a pocket at either end to hold the mop cover onto the mop. Work the ends of yarn through the stitches to hide them.
