How to Troubleshoot an SRS-BTM30

Lack of sound, skipping, distortion or humming noises may sometimes occur with your with your Sony SRS-BTM30 wireless speaker system. Whether you connect via the standard corded or Bluetooth wireless way, some troubleshooting tips may help. Take a moment to review your setup now and limit delays in listening to high quality sound later.

  1. Standard Corded Equipment Connection

      Verify that the speaker system and source equipment are turned on if you don't hear any sound. Turn up the volume on the speaker system and source equipment. Check that the cord connections are correct and secure.

      Replace the three size AA, R6 batteries if the sound is too low. This doesn't apply if you use the AC adapter to connect to the wall outlet.

      Turn down the volume on the speaker system and source equipment if the sound is distorted. Verify that its bass boost function on the source equipment is turned off, if applicable.

      Move connected source equipment away from the speaker system if you hear a humming noise. Confirm all equipment connections are correct.

    Bluetooth Source Equipment Connection

      Move nearby 2.4 GHz appliances away from the speaker system if you don't hear any sound or it skips. Microwave ovens, computers, cordless telephones and Bluetooth wireless devices are a few examples of products that can cause interference. Move these products and others out of the pathway of the speaker system and Bluetooth source equipment.

      Place the speaker system and Bluetooth source equipment source within 3 feet or less apart. Use the AC adapter that came with your speaker system to connect the speaker system it to the wall outlet. Wait until the green power LED Indicator goes off, and then press and hold down the "ID Set" button for 10 seconds. Release the "ID Set" button when the green power LED and Bluetooth symbol flash simultaneously. The connection is displayed on the Bluetooth source equipment as "SRS-BTM30." If it doesn't appear, move the speaker system and Bluetooth audio equipment source closer and try again. Otherwise, select "SRS-BTM30" from the Bluetooth source equipment display. The "ID Set" button and Bluetooth LED indicator will light up when pairing process has finished.

      Move the speaker system and Bluetooth audio equipment source in a different position if the sound still skips or you still don't hear any sound.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be alarmed if the brightness LED indicator jumps when the volume is increased. This is a normal function of the speaker system. If prompted to input a passcode, passkey, PIN or PIN number when you perform Bluetooth pairing, enter "0000."

  • The pairing process won't be completed if either speaker system or audio equipment is turned off during the task. The sound may lag if you use the SRS-BTM30 speaker system for watching TV or a DVD through the Bluetooth connection. To work around this effect, contact Sony customer service to obtain optional adapters and connecting cords.
