Instructions

    • 1

Purchase two coordinating or contrasting sheets. Make sure the sheets are the same size. Wash and dry to remove sizing and preshrink. Iron the sheets if they are wrinkled. It is much easier to work with sheets that lay together flat.

    • 2

Find an area in which you can lay the entire project down flat. If you do not have an area that large, work on one side at a time on top of your bed. Lay the sheets down in your area, right sides together. Match the edges and corners to ensure your duvet cover is straight.

NOTE: leave the top, finished edges of the sheets unfastened when you glue or sew them -- this is where you will put the comforter in.

    • 3

Glue the sheets together using fabric glue. Fold back the top sheet on one side approximately 3 to 4 inches. Run a line of fabric glue about 1/2 inch from the edge, along the entire side. Unfold the top sheet and press together, following the fabric glue manufacturer's directions. Fold back the top sheet along the bottom edge approximately 3 to 4 inches. Since one corner is glued, you will have to do this somewhat diagonally. Glue in the same manner as the side. Glue the side opposite the first side.

    • 4

You may alternatively use a needle and thread to hand sew the sides together. Thread the needle and knot the ends together. Stick the needle through both layers of sheets from bottom to top. Approximately 1/4 inch further, stick the needle through from top to bottom. Just next to this stitch, stick the needle back up from bottom to top. Repeat on three sides.

    • 5

When the glue has dried sufficiently, measure and mark with chalk in 12-inch intervals. If the marks are not centered on the top, shorten the intervals a bit so they are equally spaced. Cut strips of ribbon to 12-inch sections (as many as the marks you have made). Glue the ribbon onto the duvet. You may glue on either the inside or outside, depending on your preference.

    • 6

Turn the duvet right-side out, and place your comforter or blanket inside. Tie the ribbons and place on bed.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may use alternative closures such as hook and eye fasteners or snaps and buttons.

  • If you prefer, you may place the closure at the bottom end of the duvet.
