How to Identify Triangles With Kuta Software

Kuta Software lets math teachers create unique geometry and algebra practice questions. One type of question it can create in its pre-algebra segment involves identifying triangles. It will give you information on the sides and angles coded in a variety of ways, and ask you to identify the triangle. Once you know the Kuta Software codes, you can solve the problem. Not all problems will use all of these markings, but every problem will use at least one.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the triangle’s three sides for dash marks. The same dash mark indicates the same side length. For instance, if all three sides have a single dash, the sides are all the same length and you have an equilateral triangle. If two sides have a single dash and one has a double dash, the first two sides are the same length and you have an isosceles triangle. If all sides have a different number of dashes, no sides are the same and you have a scalene triangle.

    • 2

Look for a square placed within any of the angles. This indicates a right angle, and gives you a right triangle.

    • 3

Look for rounded curves placed within any of the angles. Like the dashes on the sides, the same curve in two or three places in the same angle. Two angles with the same curve mean isosceles; three mean equilateral.

    • 4

Look for numbers within the angles. These indicate degrees, but the principle is the same as with the curves: you see which are the same or different to identify the type of triangle.
