How to Make a Hollow Round Ball From Polymer Clay
Polymer clay is a versatile substance that may be used for sculptures or for beads. The larger and denser an object made of polymer clay is, the heavier it is. A hollow ball made of polymer clay is significantly lighter. Lighten your projects by making your polymer clay balls hollow. This project requires a small amount of experience with polymer clay and how it is baked.
Things You'll Need
- Rolling pin
- Knife or circle cutter
- Round object
- Foil
- Cookie sheet
- 100-grit sand paper
- Super glue
Instructions
-
-
1
Roll out the polymer clay using a rolling pin. The clay should be 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
-
2
Cut two circles out of the clay using a knife or a circle cutter. The size of the circle determines the size of the ball, so experiment with the size of the circles that you use.
-
-
3
Mold one circle to a round object that is slightly smaller than what you want the final ball to look like. One circle should cover about half of the round object. Use your fingers to smooth out the creases and to create an even look, and use the knife to trim off the uneven ends.
-
4
Peel the half-sphere off the mold and place it rim-down on a foil-covered cookie sheet.
-
5
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 with the other circle of polymer clay.
-
6
Bake the clay according to the instructions on the packet.
-
7
Sand down the rims of both half-spheres
-
8
Glue the two halves of the sphere together using super glue.
