French knitting is a method of knitting that doesn't require needles.

French knitting is a method of knitting that is perfect for beginners, children and older people who cannot grasp knitting needles easily. French knitting uses a small, circular loom instead of needles; knitters who use this technique wrap the yarn around pegs to create a round, knitted tube. When learning to French knit, the first step is learning how to cast on. Casting on is the process of attaching the yarn to the loom to begin knitting.

Instructions

    • 1

Grasp the end of your yarn and thread it down through the center of your French knitting loom. Pull the thread through the bottom so about 10 cm of yarn hangs down through the center.

    • 2

Hold the thread and loom with your left hand and use the right hand to wind the yarn counterclockwise around one of the pegs. Repeat this step to wrap the yarn a second time around the same peg.

    • 3

Use a crochet hook to pull the bottom loop of thread up and over the peg, into the center of your loom. Once you do this, the thread is cast onto the loom.
