How to Make a Cobblestone Mosaic
From colorful Roman floors to simple rock designs, mosaics have been a common means of adding either a bold or subtle decoration to a home or building for thousands of years. While a more common material for traditional mosaics is glass, a cobblestone mosaic creates a beautiful and natural looking tabletop, floor or other durable surface. With little skill and just time, a cobblestone mosaic is easy to create at home.
Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Draw a simple outline of your design on the large board using the pencil. Follow a pattern if you wish, or create your own image.
-
2
Place several of the stones along the pattern, arranging them as desired, to see whether they fit correctly, then remove them again.
-
-
3
Place a small amount of glue on the bottom of a stone and place it where desired on the mosaic. Repeat this with all the stones until the board is completely covered.
-
4
Allow the glue to completely dry, according to the manufacturer's directions -- generally about 24 hours.
-
5
Spread the pre-mixed grout on top of the mosaic evenly, ensuring that all the areas between the stones are filled.
-
6
Wet the sponge and wring it out so it is slightly damp. Wipe away excess grout from the top of the stones, removing it and leaving the remaining grout smooth.
-
7
Allow the pre-mixed grout to dry according to the manufacturer's directions -- between 24 and 48 hours.
