How to Request a Letter of Financial Aid Reinstatement
Having your financial aid suspended or revoked can make it much more difficult to continue attending school because you have to pay for it all out of pocket. In this situation, one of your first steps should be to request in a letter that your aid be reinstated. The financial aid administrators at your school will review your case and might reinstate your financial aid. This is especially likely if there were personal circumstances beyond your control that led to your aid being suspended.

1
Call your financial aid office and ask exactly why your financial aid was revoked. Some of the most common reasons are because your grade point average was too low, your percentage of completed classes dropped below the required level or you have taken too many credits without earning a degree yet.
-
2
Make a list of the recent circumstances that caused your poor performance in school. For example, you might have withdrawn from classes halfway through last semester because you were seriously ill or because a family member died.
-
-
3
List a few ways in which your circumstances have changed since then. These can help your case that you will perform well in school if you get your aid back and start attending classes again.
-
4
Meet with your academic adviser to discuss your progress toward your degree if your aid was suspended because you have taken too many classes. Create a plan for which classes you need to take to finish your degree and get your adviser's signature of approval.
-
5
Download and fill out any forms that your school requires you to fill out when you request financial aid reinstatement.
-
6
Type a heading for your letter that contains your name and address, the financial aid office's address and a greeting to the head of the appeals department or to the financial aid administrators in general.
-
7
Type an opening paragraph to explain why you are writing a letter. State why your aid was suspended and that you would like to request that it be reinstated.
-
8
Type a paragraph explaining the circumstances that led to your financial aid suspension. Detail how many classes you missed and why, along with the causes of stress in your life that made it difficult for you to perform well in school. If your aid was suspended because you have taken too many classes, explain why so many of your classes either were not completed or do not help you move toward getting your degree.
-
9
Type a paragraph arguing your case of why the financial aid office should reinstate your aid. Explain what you have learned about managing your course load and personal life. If you have met with your adviser, mention this and attach the plan for completing your degree. You can also attach a letter from a counselor or someone who knows your situation and can attest that you are ready to begin school again.
-
10
Send your letter and any other required documentation to the financial aid office. You might also include hospitalization records, a death certificate or any other official documentation that proves the circumstances you stated in your letter.
