  • Potpourri
  • Scented Candles
  • Adhesive Bandages
  • Antihistamines
  • Aspirins
  • Blow Dryers
  • Combs
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Cough Syrup
  • Dental Floss
  • Deodorant Soaps
  • Deodorants
  • Disposable Electric Razors
  • Facial Tissues
  • Hair Conditioners
  • Hairbrush
  • Moisturizing Soap
  • Mouthwash
  • New Soft Toothbrushes
  • Sanitary Napkins
  • Shampoos For Normal Hair
  • Shaving Creams
  • Shower Or Bath Gels
  • Tampons
  • Throat Lozenges
  • Toilet Paper
  • Toothpaste
  • Paper Cups
  • house socks (thick, with nonskid grips)

Step1
Clean the bathroom thoroughly.
Step2
Install a night light so that guests won't have to fumble for the light switch in the dark.
Step3
Place a bottle of mouthwash and disposable cups on the counter near the sink.
Step4
Put extra bathing supplies in the shower and let the guests know they're available. Suggestions include shampoo, conditioner, bath/shower gel, a disposable razor and a couple of bar-soap options (moisturizing and deodorant types).
Step5
Place a nonskid mat in the tub or shower if they are even moderately slippery when wet.
Step6
Provide a hair dryer and clean brush and comb in case a guest has forgotten theirs.
Step7
Supply a mirror with one magnified side and one regular side so guests can check their make-up and the back of their hair with ease.
Step8
Tell guests where their fresh towels and washcloths are. If you have the space, dedicate a towel bar to guest towels only.
Step9
Have a full roll of toilet paper on the roller. Keep backup rolls in a logical location and/or show guests where they are.
Step10
Set out air freshener, potpourri, and/or scented candles and matches.
Step11
Store a small supply of feminine hygiene products out of sight but easy to find.
Step12
Provide at least one wastebasket. If the bathroom has a dressing area and a bathing/toilet area, supply two wastebaskets.
Step13
Equip the room with a nonslip bath rug.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use high-wattage bulbs in the regular light fixture so guests can easily apply make-up or shave.
  • Keep a supply of extra, unusued toothbrushes. Ask guests whether they need one and give it to the guest yourself or tell them exactly where to find it.
  • Keep a supply of dental floss, toothpaste, shaving cream, disposable razors, aspirin, acetominaphen, antihistamine, cough syrup, throat lozenges, cotton balls, cotton swabs, adhesive bandages and spray deodorant (or sample-size roll-on) in the medicine cabinet. Tell the guest they're available.
  • Keep facial tissues in plain sight.
  • Provide a one-size-fits-most wrap-style robe on the door hook if the bathroom is dedicated to guests at least temporarily. You could supply terry-cloth slippers or house-socks, too.

on 11/22/2005 Pick up a decorative basket filled with trial-sized shampoos, soaps, toothbrushes, feminine products, razors, and a local map and attractions guide. Place it prominently in the guest bedroom so they don't have to hunt or ask for anything they might need in the bath. This also keeps the bath uncluttered.
